Catching a Jini is only the start. If you want it to win fights, you need to know why one skill lands for big damage while another barely scratches the target. In a new beginner video, the Roco Kingdom team walks through class matchups, special skill effects, Jini Traits and the ways Rocos can help their partners mid-battle. Here is what it covers and how to put it to use.
Class matchups decide how hard you hit
Roco Kingdom has 18 classes, and some Jinies carry two. Whenever a skill hits, its class is compared with the target’s class, and that sets the damage multiplier:
- Neutral matchup: 1x damage.
- The skill has the advantage: 2x. Fire skills, for example, hit Flora Jinies harder.
- The target resists the skill: 0.5x. Flora Jinies resist Light skills.
- Against a dual-class Jini, both classes count. Advantage over both gives 3x, resistance from both drops it to 0.25x, and advantage over one plus resistance from the other cancels out to 1x.
You do not need to memorize the chart. In battle, a green triangle on a skill icon means it has the advantage, a red inverted triangle means it will be resisted, and a white circle means neutral. Tap a Jini’s portrait to check its weaknesses and resistances. A Jini also deals extra damage with skills that match its own class, so a Light Jini’s Light skill outhits a non-Light skill under the same conditions.

Skill effects can swing a fight
Power and class are not the whole story. The effects written in a skill’s description can turn a battle around:
- Counter: if your opponent uses a skill that meets a Counter condition, your Counter skill goes first and triggers its effect. Every Defense skill has Counter: Attack, and some Attack skills carry Counter: Status or Counter: Attack. A successful Counter can add damage or interrupt the opponent’s skill.
- Priority: skills with Priority +1 ignore both Jinies’ Speed and act first. Initiative, a Physical Attack skill with Priority +1, is a good way to finish off a low-Health opponent even with a slower Jini.
- Agility: when you switch Jinies manually, the incoming Jini automatically uses the first skill in its skill bar that has the Agility effect and enough Energy. Switching in a Jini with an Agility Defense skill can block an incoming hit the moment it arrives.
- Marks: some Status skills apply Marks, and they stay behind when the Jini leaves the field, so the next Jini inherits them. A Jini normally holds one positive and one negative Mark at a time, though certain Traits allow more.

Class effects, Traits and Roco support
Several classes also have signature effects:
- Freeze (Ice): each stack freezes 5% of a Jini’s Health. If its current Health falls below the frozen percentage, it becomes Exhausted. Ice Jinies are immune, and skills that dispel debuffs can clear it.
- Cuteify (Charm): devolves a Jini to its previous stage. Cuteify Meodow once and it becomes Mintail; do it again and it becomes Meevy. The change lasts only for that battle.
- Poison (Poison): each stack deals 3% of the Jini’s Health at the end of every turn. Poison Jinies are immune, and you can clear it by switching out or using a skill with Return to the Field.
Every Jini also has a unique Trait. Cerulla’s Saturation lowers Energy Cost after it uses a Water skill, Sparka’s Fuel the Flames raises its Attack after a Fire skill, and Meevy’s Oxygen Cycle restores Health after a Flora skill.

You can help too. Against wild Jinies or NPCs, open your Backpack and use a Healing Potion to restore 10 Energy, though potions are not allowed in PvP. Resonance Rituals work in both exploration battles and duels with other Rocos. Wishpower Boost works on a Jini of any Bloodline and swaps the first skill in its bar for Wishpower Blast, matching its Bloodline’s class, for that turn.
