It starts as a sleepy little Jini that hides in its shell at the first sign of trouble, and it ends as a horned, pump-powered tank that never backs down. In Roco Kingdom, Catapawn and its evolutions Catarook and Cataking make up one of the most reliable Water-class lines in the game. Here is how each stage grows and how to make the most of them.
The evolution line
- Catapawn (No. 012): It looks lazy and barely moves, but when danger comes it pulls its soft body into its shell in an instant. Its flexible tail drifts like seaweed, so hungry aqua Jinies sometimes mistake it for food.
- Catarook (No. 013): It hardly ever hides in its shell anymore and faces danger head-on. Inside its shell, air and water share the space, and a small nozzle adjusts the balance so it can dive and surface freely.
- Cataking (No. 014): Several times heavier than its earlier forms, with front legs that pack a punch. With a sharp horn on its head, a shell on its back and a rear pump for Water Blast, it is solid and dependable in any fight.
All three stages are Water class, belong to the Amphibian egg group and share the same trait. Each stage also has a Molting Variant.

Trait: Shell Guard
Shell Guard reduces the Energy Cost of defense skills by 2.
That makes this whole line excellent at protecting itself. It can raise defenses often and cheaply, saving energy for attacks.
Stats at every stage
Here is how Species Aptitude grows from stage to stage:
- Catapawn, 357 total: HP 67, Physical Attack 28, Magic Attack 72, Physical Defense 64, Magic Defense 81, Speed 45
- Catarook, 475 total: HP 90, Physical Attack 37, Magic Attack 96, Physical Defense 85, Magic Defense 107, Speed 60
- Cataking, 594 total: HP 112, Physical Attack 46, Magic Attack 120, Physical Defense 107, Magic Defense 134, Speed 75
At every stage, the line leans on Magic Attack and Magic Defense, so it works best as a sturdy magic attacker. Cataking’s 134 Magic Defense makes it especially hard to take down with magic.
Size and capture details:
- Catapawn: 0.53 to 0.76 m, 7.5 to 10.5 kg. Gives 16 Starlight and a 1,200 Roco Coin base review reward.
- Catarook: 0.65 to 0.92 m, 19.5 to 24.5 kg. Gives 28 Starlight and a 2,100 Roco Coin base review reward.
- Cataking: 1.23 to 1.75 m, 83.5 to 94.5 kg.
Class effectiveness
When attacking with Water skills:
- Deals ×2 damage to: Fire, Earth and Mech
- Deals ×0.5 damage to: Flora, Ice and Dragon
When defending as a Water-class Jini:
- Takes ×2 damage from: Flora and Electro
- Takes ×0.5 damage from: Fire and Mech
All other matchups deal normal ×1 damage. Fire and Mech Jinies are ideal targets, since this line both hits them hard and resists their attacks.

Where to start
- Evolve Catapawn all the way to Cataking. Its total Species Aptitude jumps from 357 to 594.
- Build around Magic Attack, the line’s best offensive stat at every stage.
- Pack defense skills like Bubble Shield, since Shell Guard makes them 2 Energy cheaper.
- Send it in against Fire and Mech opponents, and switch out against Flora and Electro.
- Look for Shared Ride among its Specialties. This line has it, and Dimo and Duckiji do not.
