Steam User Reviews Continue to Improve

Why Player Sentiment Has Shifted

The improving review scores closely reflect the broader conversation within the game's community.

At launch, many players reported technical issues such as shader compilation delays and startup crashes, while others questioned the feel of combat and the pacing of the opening chapters.

As more players reached the later stages of the game, discussion gradually shifted toward its strengths. Community members have frequently praised quality-of-life features such as resuming boss fights directly from their second phase after death, frequent checkpoints that reduce downtime, and clear quest guidance that keeps exploration straightforward.

Several players have also noted that the game becomes significantly stronger beyond its opening hours, with many pointing to the Lu Family Village area as the point where the experience truly opens up.

Combat Rewards a Different Approach

One recurring topic among players has been the game's combat system.

Many initially approached Phantom Blade Zero like a traditional Soulslike, relying on perfect parries, perfect dodges, and waiting for enemy openings. Over time, players discovered that the game's mechanics encourage a different rhythm. Guarding can be maintained while continuing to attack or dodge, dodging does not consume the Sha Qi resource, and switching weapons instantly restores it.

As players adapted to these systems, community discussion increasingly shifted from comparing the game to Soulslikes toward experimenting with weapon combinations and discovering highly effective combat builds.

More Updates Are on the Way

Alongside announcing the 72-hour sales milestone, S-Game confirmed that it is continuing to address player feedback and is preparing a series of updates focused on fixing the most noticeable launch bugs and technical issues.

While some technical shortcomings remain, the game's growing player base and improving review scores suggest that early impressions are continuing to evolve. Whether upcoming patches further strengthen its long-term reception will become clearer in the weeks ahead.
